With the 2023–2024 school year coming to an end, students will have more time on their hands. Interested in some activities to do in Norfolk this summer? Here are seven fun things to do.
Chrysler Museum Of Art
The Chrysler Museum has 50 galleries, a growing collection of more than 30,000 objects and a one-of-a-kind glass studio. Admission is free and this museum’s collection includes paintings, sculptures, glass, photography, and decorative arts. Located in the Hague, a subregion of Ghent, this beautiful building is worth a few hours of your summer vacation.

The Slover Library
This library was built in 2015 and includes collections of adult popular fiction and nonfiction, a youth library and learning center, and teen services in a casual environment . Located in the center of downtown Norfolk, the Slover is placed perfectly for an afternoon at the library accompanied by lunch at one of the several restaurants nearby.

The Hermitage Museum and Gardens
This historic home with vibrant gardens offers a fine art collection, professional programs and classes, all free of charge. On a warm sunny day, the Hermitage would be the perfect place for a picnic with family and friends or a walk around the stunning grounds.

Norfolk Tides
The Norfolk Tides are a Minor League Baseball team in the International League and the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Located at Harbour Park Stadium, directly on the route of the Tide(the light rail system), The Tides provide an opportunity to watch a summer baseball game and enjoy a day downtown. The Tides have games all throughout the summer and with a glance at their website, one could find their schedule and for a reasonable price, purchase tickets for one of their games. Grab a hotdog and some friends and take a free ride down to the ballpark for an afternoon of fun.

Virginia Zoo
The Virginia Zoological Park, commonly known as the Virginia Zoo, is a 53-acre zoo located near Lafayette Park. Featuring red pandas, giraffes, white rhinos, chimpanzees, lions and more, the Virginia Zoo provides an opportunity to see animals from around the world.

The Elizabeth River Trail
Over ten miles of scenic route along the Elizabeth River Trail passes through many unique parts of Norfolk. This trail starts downtown and passes through West Ghent, Larchmont and ends in Lafayette Place. It features loads of wildlife and an opportunity to stay active. Whether it be biking, walking or running, the ERT is an excellent choice of physical activity during a warm, summer day.

The Nauticus
The Nauticus is a maritime-themed science center and museum located on the downtown waterfront. This center has an indoor museum along with the Battleship Wisconsin, the second battleship of the United States Navy. A day of learning about our country’s brilliant nautical history and exploring the 1940’s ship is the perfect activity.

Norfolk’s accessibility to many unique places allows it to thrive over the summer. Rest up for the 2024–2025 school year and enjoy some activities this break.
