A Norfolk boxing star appeared at Maury High School’s football season opener.

Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis, third ranked professional boxer in the lightweight division, attended Maury’s game against Henry Wise Jr. High School at Powhatan Arena on Friday and shared his thoughts on how local boxing impacts Norfolk as a city.

Davis, 25 years old, attended Norfolk Public Schools until his senior year. He expressed high hopes for his gym, DB3, and for the sport of boxing in his hometown.

“Boxing as a sport can definitely turn this community around,” Davis said.

DB3’s website says the gym is “an escape for our youth” that teaches the “fundamentals of classic Norfolk boxing.” Its grand opening is Sept. 8.

Davis(11-0, 7 KOs) will fight Gustavo Lemos (29-1, 19 KOs) Nov. 8 at Norfolk’s Scope Arena.
