Maury High School boys basketball grabbed another win in Portsmouth.
Maury defeated Churchland High School 63-55 on Friday, weathering Churchland’s comeback effort with defense and free throws.
Maury’s stifling defense gave them a 15-point lead at halftime, but Churchland rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring Maury 24-17.
Maury made 12 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter alone to maintain the lead.
Senior guard Adrean “Baby A” Newton led all scorers with 18 points. Senior center Jayvion Green and senior forward Zachari Owens scored 16 points each.
Maury is now 3-1. They will face Nansemond River High School Dec. 14.
