After losing to Highland Springs High School last week, the Maury High School boys basketball team bounced back with a convincing victory.
Maury boys basketball defeated Cape Henry Collegiate 70-40 at Norview High School on Saturday, mostly due to strong shooting in the first half.
Maury went on the attack in the first two quarters, leading 46-17 by halftime. Sophomore guard Taberon Hawkins led all scorers in the first half with 15 points, making four 3-pointers.
In the second half, the Commodores drowned the Dolphins with stifling defense and consistent scoring. Senior forward Zachari Owens led all scorers with 18 points and senior guard Adrean Newton added 11. Sophomore guard Kamryn Harrell and freshman guard Malachi Roberts contributed seven points each.
Maury boys are now 7-2 on the season. They will play against Lake Taylor High School at home Jan. 10.
