After defeating Norview earlier in the week, Maury girls basketball took down Churchland on Friday.
Maury girls basketball won both of their games this week, beating Norview on Wednesday 50-38 and then blowing out Churchland 63-23, and now they’re prepping for the last leg of the season.
In Friday’s contest, senior Myla Parker led all scorers with 16 points. Senior Camori Veal, junior Sarajane Walker, and sophomore Nyla Brown all scored 11 points each.
Head coach Julius Owens said the keys to victory against Churchland were “understanding your assignment and tough defense.”
With only five games left in the season, Owens said he was happy with the Commodore offense and noted improvements on the defensive end.
“We’re getting to the point where we’re starting to understand the assignments better,” said Owens. “We’re getting ready to take this a step further, [meaning] the playoffs.”
The Commodores are now 13-2. They play Booker T. Washington Monday Feb. 3.
