Maury loses to Green Run in the state quarterfinals

Maury boys basketball lost to Green Run Tuesday night.

Despite mounting a comeback in the fourth led by their seniors, Maury fell short against Green Run High School 61-54.

Maury’s seniors Adrean “Baby A” Newton and Jayvion Green scored 19 points each. Green dropped four 3-pointers, and Newton had three steals.

However, Green Run’s starting big man, senior David “Trey” Miller, dominated inside with 25 points. Senior guard Kassidy Jackson also scored 13 points, nine of which came from the free-throw line.

Maury lowered the lead to as little as three points, but clutch plays from Miller and junior guard Sean Michael Gooden kept the Commodores at bay.

That’s the end of the postseason for the Maury Commodores. They finished with a 20-7 record, second in the Eastern Region.
