The Maury High School Commodores defeated the Norcom High School Greyhounds 66-0 on October 17.

Maury won this game through the stifling defense and efficient offense, resulting in their third shutout in a row and their sixth straight win.

Maury’s defense allowed zero points. One of Norcom’s turnovers was a fumble forced out by senior linebacker Marquise Perrin and recovered by Ike Simmons. The other turnover was an interception made by cornerback Matt Williams who returned the pick for a 24-yard touchdown.

Maury also recorded three sacks with two coming from seniors Joshua Thomas and Hunter Collins.

Maury’s offense remains impressive as it has the past four weeks with the passing attack taking center stage yet again.

Star quarterback Dominick (Domo) Everette scored five touchdowns to lead the offense.

Second-string QB TreQuan Duke also had a touchdown after the backups came in for the fourth quarter. Three receivers caught touchdowns in the game, including senior Damon McDaniel who led the team with two receiving touchdowns.

The rushing attack for Maury was also good with Everette, senior Javonti Hughes, and junior Tayshawn Branche all running it in for TDs.

This is Maury’s sixth straight win to get them to 6-1 on the season. When asked what they could improve upon, Maury student Christopher Powell said, “Nothing, [be]cause their winning.”

Maury plays Lake Taylor High School next week on October 24.
