The Commodores defeated the Warwick High School Raiders 42-10 on Friday, November 21.
Maury won with their prolific offense and commanding defense.
Quarterback Dominick “Domo” Everette led the offense with five total touchdowns, four through the air and one on the ground, to four different receivers: juniors Matt Williams, Jahvon Wiggins, and Tayshawn Branche, and senior Damon McDaniel.
The Commodore passing attack relied heavily on screen passes and short throws, letting the receivers do their stuff after the catch, though they still threw it deep a couple of times.
Maury had another rushing touchdown from running back Tayshawn Branche, who split the defense or ran through people multiple times throughout the night.
The Commodores recorded two interceptions and two sacks. The defense also allowed only a field goal on the first drive and a touchdown in garbage time. Sophomore Trequan Duke nabbed one of the interceptions, while Williams grabbed another. Seniors Jacoby Marshall and Joshua Thomas recorded a sack each.
The Maury special teams also blocked a punt and recovered an onside kick.
On Friday, November 28, Maury High School will travel to play Kings Fork High School in the regional championship.
