The Maury High School Commodores defeated the Churchland High School Truckers 63-57 on Wednesday, Dec.10.
Maury won through their clutch shooting and their defense in the passing lanes, converting to a great fast break offense.
Maury fell behind in the first half 31-28 after letting Churchland get to the free throw line 21 times, and Churchland made 16 free throws. Churchland’s big man Antwon Wright visited the line 17 times in the game.

Maury struggled to get to the line prior to the fourth quarter totaling zero in the first, eight in the second, and four in the third.
However the Commodores shined on defense in the passing lanes. Maury created many turnovers which led to a good deal of fast break points.
Senior guard Kymani Johnson led the team in scoring with 15 points. Senior big Jake Guinn scored six points in the first quarter, and eight total, and junior guard Daevon Reed scored nine points.
What really propelled the Commodores to victory though was their play in the clutch. Maury headed into the fourth quarter down two and received almost all of their points from Daevon Reed who had seven and Kymani Johnson who had eight in the quarter respectively.
The Maury High School Commodores take on the Granby High School Comets on the road on Friday, Dec. 12.
