The Maury High School Commodores defeated the Manor High School Mustangs 58-45 on Jan. 9.
Maury won this game through stout defense and exceptional shooting from beyond the arc.
Maury controlled most of the game. The held a seven-point lead at the half and doubled it by the end of the game.
Maury’s defense held Manor’s offense to only one three pointer and six trips to the free-throw line. Manor’s Christian Tyndall recorded 17 points and Michael Banks scored 10, but no one else on Manor’s team scored in double figures. Tyndall only went to the line three times and Banks show zero free throws.
Meanwhile, four Commodores ( Senior Jake Guinn, junior A’Mari Clark, sophomore Daevon Reed, and freshman Tajuan Pair) all scored 10 points. The Commodores hit five threes in the game, accounting for 27 percent of their points scored.
The Commodores will play I.C. Norcom High School on the road Jan. 14.
