The Maury High School girls basketball team showed up and showed out at Churchland on Friday.
With a convincing victory of 56-10 against Churchland, Maury girls basketball won their fourth straight game to start the season with stifling defense.
Head Coach Julius Owens praised his team’s defensive “toughness” after the game.
“The girls have been working hard all year, ” Owens said.
The numbers show that the hard work paid off in Portsmouth. Maury only allowed four points in the first half and six points in the second. Churchland was only able to score at the free-throw line in the third quarter.
Maury, however, was able to score with a balanced offense. Senior guard Arianna Owens led all scorers with 11 points, and sophomore center Antoinette Taylor contributed eight points in the paint. Myla Parker and Camori Veal also added seven points each.
Maury is now 4-0. The team plays against Granby High School at home on Dec. 18.
