The Maury High School Commodores blew out the Granby High School Comets 74-46 on Friday, Jan. 30.
Maury defeated Granby by converting their tenacious defense into offense.
Maury’s defense thrived on steals. Sophomore guard Zoe Redel had many impressive steals that directly contributed to Maury’s offense, as well as helped swing the momentum. Maury also held all Granby scorers to single digits.
On offense, the Lady Commodores went on a 15-0 run to close the first quarter. In the second quarter, a steal started an 8-0 run. Senior Lamari Budd scored 34 points, including 22 in the second half, to lead all scorers. Budd’s persistent drives to the basket also earned her five trips to the free-throw line for eight of the team’s 17 free throws. Other top contributors were junior Nyla Brown, who scored 16, and senior Sarajane Walker, who contributed 11.
Maury High School’s next game will be against Lake Taylor at home on Feb. 4.
